This paper discusses in detail the role of API, policy of Government of India for enabling use of open APIs in financial services and real cases of implementation of open API in Indian banking industry. It also deliberates over the benefits and challenges of adopting open APIs, provides some solutions and suggests further possible applications of open API in the financial services industry. Keywords: API, open banking, account aggregators, fintech, PSD2, BFSI, financial service
